Mont-Gelé has two official ungroomed itineraries descending toward different corners of Verbier's mountain network. Down in town, Farinet puts live music into the après equation. Both are worth leaving time for in a winter 2026/27 trip.

Learn what the yellow lines mean

Verbier 4Vallées distinguishes its marked, ungroomed freeride itineraries from other off-piste terrain. The resort describes the itineraries as secured routes; that description does not extend to every slope reached from a lift. Its freeride page treats objectives such as the Backside Mont-Fort separately and recommends a mountain guide. Use the current map and respect closures; beyond the marked itineraries, book a mountain guide. Official freeride overview.

Mont-Gelé is a useful example. The operator describes two official itineraries: Grande Journée heads toward Tortin, while the south-face route leads toward La Chaux and the Mont-Fort hut. Whether either route makes sense depends on its opening status and the day's conditions. Mont-Gelé route information.

Pick a base for the entire day

Look at Le Châble when comparing places to stay. Verbier's tourism office presents rail access to Le Châble and the onward gondola connection as part of the arrival network. It also advertises direct Verbier Express services, with schedules to confirm for your arrival date. Getting to Verbier.

Stay in Verbier itself if late evenings in town are a priority. If you choose Le Châble, confirm the last gondola and the cost of a later return before booking.

Leave an evening for Farinet

The tourism office lists Farinet Après-ski in central Verbier as a live-music venue. Consult its current program for your dates. Farinet listing.

Beyond the marked itineraries

For terrain beyond the marked itineraries, tell your mountain guide exactly what you have skied before. Confirm the required equipment and what happens if conditions change the objective. Off-piste and rescue cover also deserve a close read in your travel insurance.
